Read the letter as a licensing footnote, not a character judgment. Alt E Wind & Solar, Ltd. is a small, family run Fort Collins installer: founded in 2010, president Rick Pike, vice president of marketing Amy Pike, operations manager Nick Pike, and 5 employees per BBB. The founding year is consistent across the Fort Collins Chamber, LinkedIn, BBB (started January 1, 2010, incorporated December 21, 2010), and a 2015 BizWest energy directory. The homepage line about nearly 30 years of experience in the renewable energy industry is an experience claim, not a company age. BBB rates it A+, has accredited it since June 24, 2014, and the live complaints page reads 0 complaints. The company says its installers are in house, and BuildZoom counts 132 permitted projects, 49 of them solar installations. Nothing adverse surfaced: no attorney general action, no lawsuit, no board discipline anywhere.

Now the license, which needs careful wording. Colorado has no statewide solar contractor license. The state credential that matters is an electrical contractor registration with the State Electrical Board through DORA, and Alt E does not have one. Our researcher queried the DORA open dataset under every name variation (alt e wind, alt e, alte, wind and solar, and entity name filters) and searched every Pike principal; nothing links to this company. The two Pike master electricians on file in Loveland are responsible individuals for unrelated firms. So do not describe Alt E as a state licensed electrical contractor, because the state has no such record. What is verified is municipal: the official City of Fort Collins Citizen Portal shows ALT E WIND & SOLAR, LTD holding Sub Contractor license S-2445(PV), issued July 15, 2014, expiring April 15, 2028, with city business license X07440 expiring December 15, 2026, named individual Dylan Shawley, insured by Acuity Ins Co. BuildZoom also reports a Boulder County license, CON-20-0036, which was not checked against a county database. In plain terms: Alt E is municipally licensed for PV work in the jurisdictions checked, and our rubric caps any company without the state registration at C.

Two more gaps you should know about before a site visit. No workmanship warranty duration is published anywhere fetched; the homepage project writeups reference only the 25 year manufacturer warranty on the panels, and LinkedIn offers a general 100 percent guarantee of a trouble free experience, which is a sentiment, not a term. And the company appears on neither 2026 Solar Power World list, so the BuildZoom permit count is the only third party scale signal. If you like the small shop model, and plenty of Northern Colorado homeowners clearly do, ask two things: which licensed electrical contractor will appear on your permit, and what the written workmanship term is. Get both answers on paper.
