AMECO is the most substantial operator of the three Southern California companies we graded this week, and also the one where the marketing needs the most translation. Start with the 1974 claim. The brand genuinely dates to 1974 and BBB confirms that business start date, but the company you would hire today is AMECO Solar LLC, CSLB license 1053172, issued May 6, 2019, incorporated January 24, 2019, with BBB recording new ownership as of May 6, 2019. The founder-era corporation, AMECO Solar Inc under Patrick Redgate's license 483280, was reissued to another entity in 2009 and dissolved in 2021. The site says "over 50 years" in one place and "nearly 40 years of experience" in another. Neither describes the current LLC, which is seven years old.

The current record is solid where it counts. License 1053172 is active with B General Building and C-10 Electrical (no C-46 Solar, which B plus C-10 does not require for this work), a $25,000 contractor bond, a $100,000 LLC employee bond, $1,000,000 in liability coverage, and workers comp through April 2027. AMECO is the only company in this batch with independently verified volume: Solar Power World 2026 ranks it 227th nationally, 49th in California, and 74th on the installers list at 4,479.97 kW installed in 2025. One caution from the same license page: the workers comp policy lists only sales and clerical class codes, no field installation codes, so ask directly who performs the physical work. A sibling entity, AMECO Builders Inc, was licensed in December 2025 at the same address with the same qualifiers, who also run NRG Clean Power.

The complaint file is where the C gets earned. BBB rates AMECO A and has accredited it since 2000, but shows 12 complaints in three years with 9 closed in the last 12 months, and the pattern is consistent: warranty service delays on a SolarEdge inverter for a $40,000 system, battery support delays, a $350 fee charged for an in-warranty microinverter and later refunded, tax credit timing disputes, and incorrect SCE interconnection forms. Nothing rose to enforcement, and no CSLB discipline appears on any of the three AMECO licenses. But for a company whose complaints cluster around post-sale service, it is telling that no workmanship warranty duration appears anywhere on the fetched site. The residential page claims a 40 year warranty on equipment, which is a manufacturer matter. Get the workmanship term, in years, in the contract, and this company is worth a quote.
