Brightway Energy

Brightway Energy, LLC is a three person shop at 165 Middlesex Ave in Somerville that has one verified state credential and several open questions. The credential is real: HIC 198205 is active, effective March 18, 2026 and expiring March 18, 2028, with Joshua E Marotske as responsible person, and the state record's Public Complaints tab reads "No Public Complaints available." Massachusetts does not license solar contractors as such, so the HIC registration is the consumer lane that covers a residential rooftop contract, and Brightway has it in good standing as of September 25, 2026.

Here is what could not be found. Beyond the HIC registration, Massachusetts issues the Construction Supervisor license to an individual through its Building Licenses registry and licenses electricians through a separate board. A search of the state Building Licenses registry for the last name Marotske returned zero results. The state ePLACE electrician lookup returned nothing for the business name, and the company does not publish the name of a qualifying electrician anywhere we read. The ePLACE portal was in the middle of a system migration that week, so the electrician result is inconclusive rather than damning. Still, on a rooftop job you want to know who the supervisor of record is and who signs the electrical permit. Brightway does not tell you, and the state records did not tell us either.

The rest of the record is thin but positive. BBB rates the company A+ and has accredited it since October 19, 2023, lists three employees, and dates the LLC to January 22, 2020 with incorporation February 10, 2020. The profile displays no complaint counts, though the BBB complaints page itself returned an error on both September 2 and September 25, 2026, so treat that as weak evidence of zero complaints rather than proof. No lawsuit, attorney general action, or consumer protection case naming the company turned up. The company site says its in house engineer and design team handles system design and that it serves the greater Boston area, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. For slate roofs it describes both "our experienced slate installers" and "a network of skilled professionals who specialize in slate roof installations," which reads like outside specialists on at least some jobs. Ask directly.

Two things drive the C. First, six years in business with no appearance on either 2026 Solar Power World list means nothing public shows how much Brightway actually installs. Second, and more important, no workmanship warranty appears on the about page or any service page we fetched. The about page offers a "combined 35 years of experience" line in place of a founding year or a warranty term. A quote is fine to collect. Before you sign, get the warranty in writing, get the Construction Supervisor and electrician license numbers, and check both yourself at the state portals.
