Installer profile
Freedom Forever
Do not seek a quote from Freedom Forever. The company is being liquidated. It filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware on April 15, 2026, lead case 26-10522, and the court converted that case to Chapter 7 liquidation under an order entered in early August 2026. A trustee is selling what remains of the business, and the company furloughed all of its employees after the filing. This is not a struggling installer you might get a bargain from. It is a former installer.
The license record was bad before the bankruptcy. CSLB license 1029644 is under suspension, listed as an Employee/Worker Bond Suspension, and the license sits under a disciplinary order from a 2024 stipulated settlement in Accusation N2022-286: the license was revoked, the revocation was stayed, and Freedom Forever LLC was placed on three years of probation. CSLB also discloses thirteen citations dating back to 2017, plus a letter of admonishment issued September 24, 2025. In April 2026, roughly nine business days before the bankruptcy filing, the Texas Attorney General issued the company a civil investigative demand as part of a solar fraud initiative, seeking records on sales scripts, contracts, warranties, and savings claims. A 2024 CBS News investigation reported homeowners who said loans were opened in their names for systems they never agreed to buy.
The consumer record points the same direction. BBB rates Freedom Forever F, not accredited, with 1,245 complaints in the last three years and three alerts, one of which is a pattern of complaints. The displayed complaints all carried status Unanswered. To be fair to the full record, the same BBB profile shows a 4.35 out of 5 average across 4,052 customer reviews. Both numbers are real. A company can install a lot of systems that work and still fail the customers whose systems do not, and the F rating is driven by non-response to 71 complaints.
If you are one of the more than 150,000 homeowners who already has a Freedom Forever system, the practical situation is this: you generally still owe your financing company, you may lose access to the customer portal, and you may need third-party monitoring. The bankruptcy filing states that no funds will be available for unsecured creditors once administrative expenses are paid. Keep your contract, warranty, and permit documents, and use an active licensed contractor for any service work. The claims agent is Kroll Restructuring Administration.
The evidence
The dates conflict and none of them matter much now. Bankruptcy coverage says founded 2011, BBB records a business start and incorporation of October 21, 2016, predecessor license Freedom Solar Electric was associated with owner Greg Albright in April 2013, and CSLB issued license 1029644 on August 2, 2017. The company grew to more than 3,600 employees and a 35-state footprint before filing bankruptcy in April 2026 and furloughing its workforce.

CSLB discloses a stipulated settlement in Accusation N2022-286, adopted September 4, 2024: license revoked, revocation stayed, three years of probation. The record also shows thirteen citations, a September 2025 letter of admonishment, and a case marked currently under disciplinary order. The Texas Attorney General issued a civil investigative demand in April 2026. BBB rates the company F with 1,245 complaints in three years and a pattern-of-complaints alert.
Volume was never the problem. The 2025 Solar Power World California list ranks Freedom Forever 11th with 59,801.26 kW installed in California, and the bankruptcy record describes nearly 2 GW of residential solar installed with a 6.1 percent 2025 market share per Wood Mackenzie. It does not appear on either 2026 Solar Power World list, consistent with a company that stopped operating.

CSLB lists license 1029644 as under suspension, an Employee/Worker Bond Suspension, with a disciplinary bond on file and a note that the license may be suspended at a future date for failure to comply with an unsatisfied final civil judgment. The license also remains under the disciplinary order described above. A suspended license under a stayed revocation is an active license problem, which caps this profile at F under our rubric.

The company published a 25-year production guarantee but no workmanship warranty duration, scope, or exclusions; a third-party review site states there is no workmanship warranty. Whatever the paper said, the obligor is now a company in Chapter 7 liquidation, so homeowners should treat the guarantee as unlikely to be performed and plan for third-party service.

How to read this
An F on this page is not a review-score opinion. It reports that the state license record and the bankruptcy court record both say this company cannot or will not perform new work: the license is suspended under a stayed revocation, and a Chapter 7 trustee is liquidating the business. The grade does not judge the individual crews who did good installations, and it does not change what existing customers owe their lenders. It exists to stop anyone from signing a new contract here. Our full rubric, including how our own installation business gets graded on the same scale, is on the methodology page. We are a solar installer and we partner with other solar companies. Grading is structurally separated from revenue; see disclosures.
