Get the quote. Great Sky Solar, Inc. is a small, worker owned installer based at 3 Bow St in Lexington, and it clears both Massachusetts consumer lanes that a homeowner can actually check. Massachusetts has no solar contractor license. What exists is the Home Improvement Contractor registration and the Construction Supervisor license, held by a person, not the company. Great Sky has both. HIC 177102 is active through October 30, 2027 with President David Bridge as the responsible person, and the Public Complaints tab on the state record reads "No Public Complaints available." Construction Supervisor license CS-117267 is active through December 16, 2027 and belongs to Matthew R Knight, the company's Vice President, doing business as Great Sky Solar. Both records were read directly in the state portals on September 25, 2026, not pulled from an aggregator.
That last point matters here. BuildZoom attaches license 106272 to Great Sky Solar. The state registry says CS-106272 belongs to Timothy Moore of Fitchburg, doing business as Momentum Solar. Wrong company. If a sales rep quotes you a license number, run it yourself at the state portal rather than trusting a third party listing.
The company's own claims are stronger than most. The about page describes a 30 year insurance backed warranty covering failures, labor costs and even insolvency risk, and says the work is done by in house teams with no subcontractors. BBB rates the company A+ without accreditation, shows no complaints, and lists no government actions. BBB dates the corporation to January 3, 2013; the company's structured data says founded 2012. Call it 13 years either way. No enforcement action, attorney general case, or lawsuit naming the company turned up in searches run September 25, 2026.
Two gaps keep this at B. Great Sky is not on the 2026 Solar Power World national list (388 companies) or the 2026 Massachusetts list (29 companies), so there is no independent measure of how many systems it installs. That fits a boutique operation, but it also means the warranty has never been stress tested in public view. And the electrician lane is unresolved: the state ePLACE lookup returned no results for the business name, the DBA, or James Plante, one of four electricians named on the team page. The portal was mid migration to a new system that week, so no result is not proof of no license. Ask who pulls the electrical permit and get that person's license number in writing.
The evidence
BBB lists the business started and incorporated January 3, 2013 as a corporation, 13 years in business. The company's about page structured data gives a 2012 founding date and describes a worker owned solar installation company and social benefit corporation. A stat block on the same page renders a conflicting founding year and should be ignored as a site artifact.
The Public Complaints tab on state HIC record 177102 states no public complaints are available. BBB shows an A+ rating, no complaint counts on the profile or complaints page, and no government actions. Web searches for lawsuits, attorney general actions, or consumer protection cases naming the company on September 25, 2026 returned nothing.
Great Sky Solar does not appear on the 2026 Solar Power World national list of 388 companies or the 2026 Massachusetts list of 29 companies. No published kilowatt total or project count independently confirms installation scale. This is consistent with a low volume boutique, not a red flag, but it leaves volume unverified.

Construction Supervisor license CS-117267 for Matthew R Knight, doing business as Great Sky Solar, is active, issued August 29, 2022, last renewed January 27, 2026, expiring December 16, 2027. Knight is listed as Vice President on the company team page. No state electrician license was found in ePLACE during the eLIPSE migration window, so that lane stays open.

How to read this
A B here means the state paperwork is clean and current and the company says the right things about warranty and crew. It does not mean we watched them install anything. Volume is the blind spot: nobody outside the company has published how many roofs it has done. Ask for three recent Lexington area jobs you can drive past, ask for the electrical permit puller's license number, and ask for the warranty insurer by name.
