Nexamp

Nexamp is not a rooftop solar installer, so this page assigns no grade. It is a community solar developer and operator headquartered at 101 Summer St in Boston, with a second headquarters in Chicago. The product it sells to households is a subscription to a share of a solar farm built somewhere else, credited against the subscriber's utility bill. Its about page pitches an "average of $275 annual electricity savings" for subscribers and describes itself as "One party for financing, construction, and customer management." Nowhere on that page, or on its solar development page, does it offer to put panels on your roof. If you searched for a Boston installer and found Nexamp, you found a different product category.

Judged as what it is, Nexamp is big. Solar Power World's 2026 list ranks it 35th nationally on 245,711.53 kilowatts installed in 2025 and classifies it as a Developer whose primary market is community solar. On the Massachusetts list it ranks 11th on 4,147.00 kilowatts. The company says two U.S. Army veterans founded it in 2007, and BBB shows incorporation on November 16, 2007, 18 years in business, 180 employees, and the alternate names Nexamp, Inc. and Nexamp Solar, LLC. Zaid Ashai is Chairman and CEO; Will Thompson is Co-Founder and SVP of asset management.

The state registry settles the installer question. Nexamp, Inc. held Massachusetts HIC registration 166723, effective June 28, 2010 and expired June 27, 2012, listed to responsible person Dwight Thompson at a North Andover address. It has not been renewed. A company that had the consumer home improvement lane and let it lapse more than a decade ago is telling you it does not contract with homeowners for work on their houses. That is consistent with the business model, not a discipline finding. Nothing in ePLACE surfaced an electrician license under the Nexamp name, though that lookup was mid migration. An aggregator lists a license number 16175 for Nexamp; it was not verified against any state registry and we do not repeat it as fact.

The complaint picture is what a homeowner considering a subscription should actually weigh. BBB rates Nexamp A+ and has accredited it since February 13, 2019, but the profile shows 133 complaints in the last three years and 34 closed in the last 12 months. There are 106 BBB customer reviews, and the one star reviews reference the community solar program and solar credits, meaning billing and credit timing, not installation workmanship. The Google rating of 3.9 across 240 votes likely reflects the same subscription experience. No government enforcement action, attorney general case, or consumer protection matter against Nexamp was found. The one federal case in the research, Nexamp, Inc. v. Consolidated Edison, Inc. et al in the Southern District of New York, had Nexamp as plaintiff against two utilities; the court dismissed Nexamp's claims with prejudice on March 25, 2025. It is a commercial dispute, not a mark against the company's conduct toward customers.
