Pure Energy
Do not get a quote from Pure Energy until one question is answered: is this company still in business? The evidence points both ways at once. Cache bypassed reads of both BBB profiles on August 30, 2026, the Lubbock office and the San Antonio headquarters, show Not Rated with the note that the business has no rating because it is out of business, plus 1 alert on the headquarters profile whose text could not be read. At the same time, the TDLR Electrical Contractor license is Active through February 10, 2027, both company websites are live, and searches for closure or bankruptcy news found nothing. A cached copy of the Lubbock profile served the same day still showed A+, so the BBB status changed recently. We are not picking a side. We are telling you the record contradicts itself, and you should not sign a five figure contract with a company whose own BBB pages say it is out of business until the company explains why.
Know who you are actually dealing with. The Lubbock listing presents a local family business, but it is the Lubbock office of Pure Energy Inc of San Antonio, the pure.solar brand. Per its own about pages, the company was established in 2014 by Justin Griffith, and the Lubbock team joined in late 2018 when Rob Dickson merged his Texas Sky Solar into Pure Energy. Both sites carry the same 5714 40th Street Lubbock address and the same 833 number, and the Lubbock BBB profile names Justin Griffith as owner. On licensing: Texas licenses the electrician, not the solar company, so the credential is a TDLR Electrical Contractor license, a TECL. TDLR shows PURE ENERGY INC of San Antonio, DBA GRIFFITH MARKETING, TECL 32381, Active, issued February 8, 2017, with designated master electrician Daniel R. Hargrove, ME 25336, Active. The number pure.solar displays, EC-32381, matches. One caution on names: Pure Energy Solar Texas, LLC of Houston, which carries a BBB F rating, is a different, unrelated company.
Even setting the out of business note aside, the record is heavy. The Lubbock and San Antonio BBB profiles share one complaint record: 29 complaints in the last 3 years, 13 closed in the last 12 months, covering the whole organization, which lists offices in eight Texas cities plus operations in Colorado, with roofing and electricity brokerage lines alongside solar. The founding story also wobbles: the sites say 2014, but one Lubbock home page line claims over 14 years of helping Lubbock families, which implies 2012 or earlier, and BBB shows incorporation in June 2018. No workmanship warranty duration is published anywhere; the 25 year figure on the Lubbock site sits under the panel equipment features, not the labor. No government enforcement names Pure Energy Inc, and it appears on no 2026 Solar Power World list. If you still want a quote, make the company resolve the BBB status in writing first.
The evidence
The company's sites state it was established in 2014 by Justin Griffith, and BBB dates the business start to January 1, 2014 with incorporation on June 8, 2018, but one Lubbock home page line claims over 14 years of operation, implying 2012 or earlier. More important, the BBB out of business note leaves it unresolved whether the operation is continuing at all, so a twelve year history cannot be treated as a going concern.

The Lubbock and San Antonio BBB profiles share one record: 29 complaints in the last 3 years, 13 closed in the last 12 months, both profiles Not Rated with an out of business note, and 1 alert on the headquarters profile whose text could not be read this session. No government enforcement naming Pure Energy Inc was found; the Texas AG's 2026 solar actions target other companies. The complaint counts are confirmed, but the rating status conflict and the unread alert leave this criterion unresolved.
No Pure Energy entry appears in the populated 2026 Solar Power World national table of 388 ranks or the 2026 Texas table of 58 entries. The company lists offices in eight Texas cities plus Colorado operations, but no independent evidence of installation scale exists in this record.
TDLR lists PURE ENERGY INC of San Antonio, DBA GRIFFITH MARKETING, under Electrical Contractor license 32381, type EC, status Active, issued February 8, 2017 and expiring February 10, 2027, with designated master electrician Daniel R. Hargrove, ME 25336, Active through June 7, 2027; pure.solar displays the matching EC-32381. Note the license belongs to the San Antonio entity, no Lubbock company holds a separate EC license, and an active license record does not resolve the BBB out of business note.

The Lubbock home page states only that installations are backed by industry leading equipment warranties and the company's own workmanship guarantee, with no duration or scope stated anywhere; the 25 year figure on the site sits under the solar panel equipment feature list, and pure.solar states no workmanship terms. With the company's operating status itself in question, an unwritten guarantee carries even less weight than usual.

How to read this
This D grades a contradiction, not a verdict. We found no proof Pure Energy has closed, and no proof it has not: BBB says out of business on both profiles, the state license says active, the websites say open. When evidence points both ways, we say so and grade the uncertainty rather than guessing. If Pure Energy resolves the BBB status and it returns to a rated, operating profile, this grade gets rebuilt on the new record. Until then, ask any Pure Energy salesperson to explain the BBB status in writing before you spend an hour on a site visit. Our full rubric, including how our own installation business gets graded on the same scale, is on the methodology page. We are a solar installer and we partner with other solar companies. Grading is structurally separated from revenue; see disclosures.
