Sol-Up Reno
Start with what the Reno storefront actually is. There is no Reno licensed Sol-Up entity. The showroom at 902 S Virginia St, open since October 2023, operates under Gigawatt Operations Inc, doing business as Sol Up, NSCB license 0075025, a Las Vegas corporation with a C-2 Electrical classification, a $7,000,000 monetary limit, a $50,000 surety bond, and a $100,000 Residential Consumer Protection bond. The license is active and originated June 28, 2010. The company's own about page still lists its service area as Southern Nevada, which does not match the Reno storefront it markets.
The scale is genuine. Solar Power World ranks Sol-Up 140th nationally on its 2026 Top Solar Contractors list and 17th among installers, with 14,098.69 kW installed in 2025, by far the largest volume of the three Reno area companies we graded. The published warranty claim is also the longest in this set: 25 years on products and labor, including roof penetrations and a 92 percent production guarantee, though it lives in FAQ prose rather than a warranty document and publishes no exclusions.
The adverse record is what drives the grade. A 2020 federal OSHA inspection under the predecessor name Sol-Up Inc. produced two violations classified Repeat, one of them fall protection, totaling $19,592 in penalties. Repeat is a more serious classification than Serious. The operating entity's BBB file shows 8 complaints in the last 3 years and a 3.36 out of 5 customer review average across 14 reviews, with allegations of high pressure sales, an unreturned $1,000 deposit, and unauthorized photo use. And in 2023 the company sued two of its own customers in federal court over a Google review and their complaints to the Nevada State Contractors Board and the Nevada Attorney General. In May 2024 the court dismissed the defamation claim under Nevada's anti-SLAPP statute, finding the review protected speech, while an abuse of process claim survived. None of that is a ruling on the underlying contract dispute. It is a documented answer to the question of how this company responds when a customer complains.
One more caution. A Sol-Up blog post claims the company has never received a complaint since 2009. The BBB complaint file and the federal court order describing NSCB and Attorney General complaints both contradict that. The narrower true statement is that the state board has taken no disciplinary action against license 0075025, and those are very different claims.
The evidence
NSCB license 0075025 originated June 28, 2010, but the current corporation, Gigawatt Operations Inc, formed December 16, 2019, and the brand sits on a chain of prior Nevada entities: SOL-UP, LLC and SOL-UP AIR LLC are permanently revoked, SOL-UP USA LLC converted, and Sol-Up Air Inc. dissolved. The company's own pages give conflicting ages, from since 2009 to 13 years to more than two decades.

That is the largest verified volume among the Reno area companies in this set.
NSCB lists Gigawatt Operations Inc, doing business as Sol Up, on active license 0075025, C-2 Electrical, monetary limit $7,000,000, expiring June 30, 2028, with a $50,000 surety bond and a $100,000 Residential Consumer Protection bond effective January 9, 2025. There is no separate Reno license or branch record; all Reno work runs under this Las Vegas license.

The company FAQ states a 25-year warranty covering products and labor, including panels, roof penetrations and any leaks they cause, the inverter, and a production guarantee of 92 percent of day one output after 25 years with degradation held within 0.5 percent annually. The terms appear in FAQ prose, not a warranty document, and exclusions and contract text are not published, so verify the written contract states them.

How to read this
Do not read this D as a claim that Sol-Up cannot build a working system. The volume evidence says it builds a lot of them, and the license and bonds are in order. The grade reflects the enforcement cap in our rubric plus a conduct record you should weigh yourself: Repeat safety violations, a real complaint file, and a documented willingness to sue customers who complained to regulators. If you get a quote, ask for the 25-year warranty in the contract itself, not the FAQ, and know which entity you are signing with, because it is a Las Vegas corporation, not a Reno company.
